Oceola Township has this cemetery located in the northeast corner of the northeast quarter of Section 18.
The name is reflected in the fact that the original land belonged to Charles Van Keuren who moved to Michigan from Ulster County NY. The parcel of land was sold to Oceola Township for just 25 cents with according to The Howell Bicentennial History is the smallest purchase price on record.
Overview Image
Many early settlers of Oceola Township can be found buried there. When looking at the families buried there, one who is familiar with county roads can see where many of them were named from. When I was there a few weeks ago I noted that many of the stones were broken and or missing. These images will hopefully be uploaded by winter.
In the 1940's, the DAR came through Livingston County and transcribed numerous cemeteries which they then put into three books, with three separate indexes. These indexes were compiled into one total index and this became the beginning of the new table format which shows the interred and the cemetery names which are linked to these individual cemetery pages.
