Part of one of the oldest churches in the county, this cemetery is located in Deerfield Township on the southwest corner of the southwest quarter of Section 25.

A non-member Joseph Welch (or Walsh) of the Roman Catholic Congregation gave two acres of land which was the original site. At the time the first name was to be Sts. Peter & Paul. The first burial took place in 1843.

In 1896 a new church was built and the cemetery now sits where the original church was located. None of the records I found indicate when the name of the church was changed to St. Augustine.

The land has changed hands from one diocese to another over the years and now sits within the Lansing Diocese.

This cemetery was also one of the ones that was transcribed by the DAR in the 1940's. The original three volumes and their indexes were compiled into a single index which became the beginning along with lots of other data for the new tabular format of index with cemetery names which are linked to these individual cemetery pages.
